Ryan<\/em>\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/header>\n<p>O Conselho Municipal de Worcester votou para reduzir o limite de velocidade para 25 milhas por hora em toda a cidade, ap\u00f3s v\u00e1rios acidentes que feriram ou mataram jovens pedestres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIsso j\u00e1 deveria ter acontecido h\u00e1 muito tempo e \u00e9 um primeiro passo, um de muitos, que precisamos dar\u201d, disse um morador de Worcester durante uma reuni\u00e3o do Conselho Municipal na ter\u00e7a-feira.<\/p>\n<p>A vota\u00e7\u00e3o tamb\u00e9m estabeleceu v\u00e1rias \u201czonas de seguran\u00e7a\u201d ao redor da cidade, onde o limite de velocidade ser\u00e1 reduzido para 20 milhas por hora. <\/p>\n<p>Tr\u00eas acidentes de tr\u00e2nsito recentes em Worcester envolvendo crian\u00e7as, al\u00e9m de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worcesterma.gov\/agendas-minutes\/current-upcoming-attachments\/city-council.pdf\">mais de 90 acidentes envolvendo pedestres em 2024<\/a>levou autoridades da cidade a declarar uma \u201cCrise de Seguran\u00e7a Vi\u00e1ria e Viol\u00eancia no Tr\u00e2nsito\u201d em julho. <\/p>\n<p>Um carro <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston25news.com\/news\/local\/13-year-old-girl-dead-after-being-hit-by-car-while-crossing-street-worcester\/Y4O2OV4EVBDRZB756SMBECDRGY\/\">atropelou e matou uma menina de 13 anos<\/a> atravessando a rua em julho. Em junho, um <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonglobe.com\/2024\/06\/25\/metro\/child-hit-worcester\/\">crian\u00e7a foi atropelada por um carro<\/a> e foi enviado ao hospital por ferimentos na cabe\u00e7a. Tamb\u00e9m em junho, um carro bateu <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/local-news\/2024\/07\/29\/pedestrian-suffers-serious-injuries-after-being-struck-by-car-in-worcester\/\">outro de 13 anos <\/a>enquanto ela atravessava a rua. Ela sofreu ferimentos graves.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Stewart, ministra da Primeira Igreja Unit\u00e1ria em Worcester, foi uma das v\u00e1rias pessoas que manifestaram apoio \u00e0 redu\u00e7\u00e3o do limite de velocidade durante a reuni\u00e3o de ter\u00e7a-feira.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTenho paroquianos que v\u00eam \u00e0 minha igreja a p\u00e9, de \u00f4nibus, em cadeiras de rodas, e temos muitas crian\u00e7as envolvidas na igreja\u201d, ela disse. \u201cTodas essas s\u00e3o pessoas que correm risco por causa da alta velocidade e dire\u00e7\u00e3o perigosa na cidade. Quero que todos estejam seguros e sejam tratados como usu\u00e1rios justos das estradas e cal\u00e7adas da cidade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alguns moradores levantaram preocupa\u00e7\u00f5es sobre a medida, questionando a capacidade da pol\u00edcia de impor o novo limite e a efic\u00e1cia de reduzir o limite de velocidade. Um morador disse que reduzir o limite de velocidade desviar\u00e1 o tr\u00e1fego para ruas laterais.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVoc\u00eas v\u00e3o transferir o problema para as comunidades\u201d, disse ele.<\/p>\n<p>O vereador Khrystian King apoiou a redu\u00e7\u00e3o do limite de velocidade, chamando a vota\u00e7\u00e3o de um \u201cpasso na dire\u00e7\u00e3o certa\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cN\u00e3o vai ser f\u00e1cil para as pessoas. Quero dizer, todo mundo dirige em algum momento ou outro acima do limite de velocidade.
